CNN to Livestream George Clooney's 'Good Night and good luck'

The Broadway debut of George Clooney “Good Night and Good Luck” was one of the sensations of the 2024-25 theater season, broke cash records and drew packed audience houses who want to see the popular film star in a prompt drama about the importance of an independent press.

Now the piece is becoming much further available: CNN is planning a live broadcast of the penultimate performance on June 7 at 7 p.m. Eastern. The performance is preceded and followed by the reporting and the discussion about the show and the condition of journalism.

“We wanted to take the piece on the street and brought London and to Paris,” said Clooney on Thursday in an interview and added, “But we also thought that it would never be exactly what it is, with the same line -up, and we thought it would be nice to have a recording of it.

“And then we thought, because the news programs are all made live, it is the perfect one to try live television, whatever is exciting – there is no safety net and it makes a funny thing to do.”

Clooney said that he would expect the piece to stream after the live broadcast, but that he does not yet know where. “We're just working on that,” he said. “The question is where it works from here, and we had three different offers and we negotiate to find out what is the best position.”
