D'Iberville, Miss. (WLOX) – For almost two decades, the state of D'Iberville has emphasized important milestones and services of the community.

“We have to get in touch with each other and share these ideas in this way, we can make progress, see how things will be received, get an idea of what is still needed in the community, and simply creating the good word about the community,” said City Councilor of Ward 2, Carrie Taranto-Chipley.

After a video presentation, three scholarships were awarded to students who were recognized for their commitment to academics and the community.

“It feels a bit of life -changing,” said Katelyn Goodon, scholarship recipient. “This scholarship will help me for a long time in the future.”

Several awards have also honored first aiders. One of the most emotional moments came when the late fireman Doyle Moran was recalled with standing ovation when his wife and children adopted his award.

“This year it was a little dark in the state of the city,” said D'Iberville-St. Martin Chamber Citizen of the Year Recipients Wendy Fayard. “Seeing our firefighter who has died and the commitment to him. He will always be part of our family.”

From emotional homages to future plans, this year's state of the city was a strong memory of D'Iberville's unity and swing.

“It is d'Eberville-we are a city on the move,” added Taranto-Chipley. “We will continue to develop and we will always be happy to talk about it.”

Other excellent awards are Citizen of the Year, which were given Fayard and the Bob Stein Award to Terresa Whitt.
