Driver convicted of Saunders County Crash, in which motorcyclists were killed

Wahoo, along with (Wowt) – A first examination by Alert 6 last year prompted the submission of fees seven months after a motorcyclist died in a collision with a car.

In a motorway west of Omaha. On Thursday, the driver stood with justice – and the widow of the victim.

Friends in a motorcycle club paid tribute to Ben Roberts from Ralston, who kills at a cruise of motorway near Mead, along with a car through a stop sign and moved in his way while he was on a spring trip.

“This was a tragic accident,” said the defender on Thursday ahead of Saunder's County Court.

The defense emphasized that no alcohol or dismissed charges. But the driver, Tami Bowen, received two years of probation for murder for the motor vehicle engine vehicle.

“I want her to understand that she has stolen a life and everyone who knew Bennett was missing a piece of her heart forever. And hurt from me, hurt,” said widow Julie Roberts on Thursday.

After tears and handkerchiefs, Bowen spoke the judge – and the victim's family.

“If I could take this day away with my own heartbeat. I would like to say how I'm really sorry that I am doing Bennett away,” she said.

In addition to the probation, Bowen will have to return to the Saunders County prison four times in the next two years: on the birthday of Ben Roberts and on the anniversary of the day on which he was killed.

It will be locked up for 48 hours each time.

Bowen's friends said it was a fair sentence.

“It's not like hiring someone, and now that she has, she just can't keep her life on,” said Lauree Lenz.

The driver of the driver and the motorcyclist, whose death it caused them, have different views of the sentence. But they agree on a hopeful result of this tragedy: that the state could see this intersection harder.

For the first time since the fatal accident, the victim's mother came through the intersection.

“Yes, we need changes at this intersection, so that the person is waiting on the side street until another person goes through,” said Lois Roberts.

Bowen's friend said the intersection deserves part of the guilt.

“It has to be better marked, it has to be a stop light, not only a cross traffic doesn't stop,” said Sarah Stuchlik.

A flashing light warns all traffic of the busy intersection.

Josh Meders rode back to Omaha and hopes that the monument will send a message to the driver there who share the street with motorcycles.

“We pay attention to you. Could pay attention to us just as well,” he said.

Bowen had insurance coverage, so the victim's wife said that she received a comparison payment.
