The head of Newcastle, Eddie Howe, has confirmed that Kieran Trippier will miss the game against Arsenal on Sunday.

Trippier has a calf injury and is missing with Joelinton, who has a knee problem, in Newcastle's Clash with Arsenal in the Emirates stage.

Howe is more optimistic that Newcastle could have Joe Willock and Sven Botman available.

The match on Sunday is a big one, with Arsenal in the Premier League – but Newcastle are just two points behind it.

“It was a knock, he has a bang on his knee,” said Howe when he was asked about Botman.

“We are not sure about the availability of Sven for the weekend, but we will give him the chance to be fit.

“We don't believe that it is a serious injury. He is unlucky.

Howe added to Trippier and Willock: “Kieran, I don't think it will be fit for this weekend, but it is also not a big injury, a very small calf problem.

“Joe – we leave the door open to him, I think he has a little chance.”

Joelinton has not played since last month and while he pushes back, think how it is unlikely that the midfielder will play again this season.

“He works behind the scenes,” said Howe. “Typical Joe, he is absolutely foot to the ground and tries to become fit because he wants to be involved.

“The biggest option is that we will not see him again this season and will prepare it for the next year.”
