Detroit Tigers Pitcher Casey Mize reacts to a violation of the left thighs

play

  • The right -handed man of Detroit Tigers Casey Mize is on the injured list of a left thigh tribe until at least May 24th.
  • It is the same thigh that cost him two months last season, although he says that this injury is not so serious.
  • The best sign: Mize was able to end six innings against the Colorado Rockies before leaving his last start.

The right-handed man of Detroit Tigers, Casey Mize, is a quarter of the way through what develops into a career-changing comeback season, just like teammates Javier Báez and Spencer Torkelson.

But Mize hit a speed base on his trip.

The tigers placed Mize on the 15-day injured list on May 10 (retrospectively until May 9th) with a left thigh load, which means that it is only on May 24th to return. There is good and bad news: it could be a minimum stay on the injured list, but it is the second time in a row with a left -wing history.

“I optimized it in the game,” said Mize on May 11th and referred to his start on May 8th against the Colorado Rockies. “We are a bit more conservative because it is May. If it is September, we may not have this conversation.”

Manager Aj Hinch described it as a slight burden.

Mize confirmed that.

“Very mild,” he said.

The thigh injury this season seems to be clearly different from the thigh injury last season, which cost him two months.

This time Mize continued to throw – just not in games.

He completed a Bullpen meeting on May 13th, and there is a possibility that he will avoid a rehab task, even though it is too early, to say safely.

“I don't close my arm at all,” said Mize. “Even my normal preparation work and routine are the same, with some additional rehab. I think that's a positive sign.”

Another big difference: The thigh injury last season required immediate removal from his start against the angels in Los Angeles. This season, however, he felt good enough to complete the sixth inning of his start against the Rocky Mountains and allow a run with three goals without walks and eight strike outs.

“I think that proves how small it is,” said Mize. “Something is there, but it's not that bad.”

In 2025, Mize has an ERA of 2.53 ERA with nine walks and 35 strikeouts in 42 ° C in seven starts. He has the best era in the Tiger's starting trotation, better than the American league -Cy winner Tarik Skubal, who has an ERA of 2.67 ERA in nine starts.

Mize released a 4.49 ERA in 2024.

From 2024 to 2025, he improved the Geh Rate (from 6.4% to 5.4%) and the strike rate (from 17.3% to 21%), but above all, his heat is rose from 22% to 28.3%. His splinter-minded his signature pitch as No. 1 of the overall selection in the MLB design of Auburn 2018-is the best that it was in his five-year MLB career.

Now Mize only has to get well again.

“I threw the ball well, so this comes at a strange time in which I don't want to miss a starting,” said Mize, “but we don't look here for months. I don't think I have to learn how to do some things. Hopefully I can just get back in.”
