Thornton holds Davenport for Eagle Score

Eagle, along. – Ricky Thornton Jr. won the lead in round 35 again and again on Thursday evening on the Eagle Raceway one night of Malvern Bank High Bank.

This victory was the eighth win of Thornton in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt series, which was presented by Floracing and his first at Eagle.

In the last 10 rounds of the race, Thornton stumbled in round for the 1940s shortly four years ago and gave Jonathan Davenport in round 34.

Kyle Bronson took 11th place in third place. Devin Moran became fourth and Garrett Alberson took fifth place.

Hudson O'Neal tried to win at Eagle for the second time in less than a year and fell the lead at the beginning of the 40-round main event. He went in the field for the first 11 circuits on the field until Thornton took the lead from him in round 12.

Thornton had a steady lead until Davenport appeared as a candidate in the last 10 rounds of the race. Davenport had several chances in the final route, but every time he cost him a caution, the opportunity for the race director.

“I only slowed down too much in four o'clock, I didn't notice that the groove got as big as out there,” said Thornton. “I tried to improve myself, but I came close to the 15 car, and I thought I would just go here for a round and I went over the berm. I could hardly hold the steering wheel, and it tore it out of my hand. Start and then the yellow came out and I thought, JD would slide and probably win.”

Davenport had a glimmer of hope that led the 34th round, but a few precautionary measures held him away from stealing Thornton's victory in the final rounds after Thornton had come back to round 35.

“It was really just a bad time for the precautionary measures,” said Davenport. “I would not have had a chance if Ricky hadn't made this mistake on the pillow, and we came to him. I made a mistake that I should have gone up if I had passed him, but I thought I could hug the ground and break its swing. Caution came out, and then he knew that he was at the top.

Bronson came from the inside of the six to take third place at the finish line.

“We brought out another car today. The creepiest moment was when I got one of these restarts a little too low and climbed into this mucus and slipped over the racetrack. It is nice to have a route that is good again. There was a big ole pillow there. I'm only looking forward to tomorrow.
