Large pipeline losing near Karachi University triggers floods, 40 PC cuts in the water supply are expected

Karachi: The deteriorating distribution network of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) led considerable floods at the Karachi University in Pakistan on Tuesday, whereby water was held by a 84-inch supply line that also reported the residences of the faculty and the staff, as reported by DAWN.

The leak in the main supply line is expected to make water shortages for the residents of the city, which leads to a reduction in the water availability of almost 40 percent for the next four days due to the necessary repair work.

The affected districts include Chanesar Town, Jinnah Town, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Pak Colony, Golimar, Sherhah, The Alt City, Landhi, Korangi and Paf Base Masroor.

The city, which requires over 1,200 million gallons water every day, receives the 84-inch diagram pipeline due to repairs to Siphon No. 19, which developed a leak near the Karachi university.

The KWSC spokesman Abdul Qadir Shaikh mentioned that the repair efforts are expected to take 96 hours. He found that the leak appeared on Tuesday morning, which caused immediate emergency words from the water supplier.

He added that the repair process would lead to partial disorders of water supply in various regions of the city. He explained that KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui instructed the relevant teams to initiate repair work without delay.

He explained that the water supply of the Dhabenji pumping station after the leak was immediately suspended and the repairs would begin as soon as the water level decreased. “To ensure the security of the repair teams and to facilitate efficient operation, the water pressure in the pipeline affected was temporarily reduced,” he said.

The spokesman stated that repair activities had already started on a full scale and would continuously act around the clock. The residents are asked to keep water in advance and use it carefully to prevent any inconvenience. (Ani)
