BMW M2 Racing meets the track in a new official video

The BMW series “Back of the Scenes”, which focuses on the M2 racing sport, continues with episode two, which focuses on the development. It shows the four -cylinder racing car in its natural environment before its official racing debut for the 2026 season. While the video does not explain why a B48 engine attaches the car, some logical reasons come to mind.

The use of the smaller 2.0-liter turbo engine significantly reduces the running costs compared to the 3.0-liter S58. The decision for a four-cylinder setup also means less weight over the front axis. In addition, the M2 racing share more components with street shipping, so BMW can keep the price below six numbers. It starts at EU markets at € 98,000.

Another advantage of the B48 engine with its shift of 1,998 cc is to comply with the racing series that takes the engine size. This enables BMW's entry -level car to qualify for a wider spectrum of competitions. There is also a historical connection to be taken into account: the legendary M3 E30 started its motorsport life with a four -cylinder engine as a homologation model.

2025 BMW M2 Racing G87

An interesting technical detail is the use of the 8 -PS automatic transmission from ZF, but less with equipment. While an M2 XDRIVE is supposedly in the works for the street, the 308 hp of the racing car only goes to the rear wheels. The M2 race only weighs 1,498 kilograms (3,302 pounds) and 512 LBS lighter than the production M2. This weight savings can primarily be attributed to the displayed interior, even though the smaller engine contributes. BMW also replaced the glass windows with macrolone polycarbonate.

Although the M2 race is strongly based on the street car, it contains functions that cannot be found on the G87. Engineers assembled solid KW dampers from the M4 GT3 and a new exhaust that was derived from the M4 GT4. Both the front and the rear stabilizers are adjustable, and the engine output can be coordinated depending on the racing series. The additional motorsport touch include quick releases and trunk locks as well as a synthetic material of front splinters.

So far, all media assets have shown the M2 race with the M -Performance -rear spoiler, but buyers can build up an upgrade at a proper wing at additional costs. Other optional devices include a front passenger seat, a data logger, an air socket system and an adjustable exhaust flap. Fortunately, air conditioning is standard to cool off on a hot summer day of the race.
