AP PGA championship history:

Charlotte, NC (AP) – Scottie Scheffler was one of the few players who came to a little practice at Quail Hollow for the PGA championship. A day earlier, before the Rain soaked the course on Monday and most players only transformed into the practice areas between the shower's shot.

The PGA of America closed the course on the first official training day because of the heavy rain to the audience. You can either search for a refund or use your tickets in the next two days.

But one thing was clear: Quail Hollow was a little longer of the rain that drives the 7,626 yard course.

Quail Hollow is known to most players on the 156-man field and has been organizing a PGA tour every year since 2003, except when it held the PGA championship in 2017 and the Presidents Cup in 2022. Nevertheless, this leads to a short week of training.

Sunday would have been an ideal time to see the course, but there were only a few players here.

“They are all at tournaments,” said Kerry Haigh, director of the championship at the PGA of America.

Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele led a parade of Stars at the Signature event in the Philadelphia Cricket Club, which was won by Sepp Straka. There was also a PGA tour event on Myrtle Beach, which contained more than a dozen players on the field at the PGA championship. This includes Ryan Fox, who earned him a place in Quail Hollow.

Scheffler skipped the Truist Championship, which is typical of No. 1 player because he plays the two stops near Home in Dallas -the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which he won with eight shots, and Charles Schwab Challenge next week at Colonial.

This is only the second time that he played Quail Hollow. The other was the Presidents Cup when the course had a different routing. He knows the holes, just not in the correct order.

Scheffler played the front nine on Sunday afternoon and spent most of the time to drive the Greens as Caddy Ted Scott – with a long story in Quail Hollow, when he wheelized for Bubba Watson – different options with different pens.

The course had already received a lot of rain and was soft, especially the fairways. Scheffler met a ride on the left on the ninth 530-yard-par-4 and immediately said: “Give me the 5-wood.” Sometimes he goes out of the rough with 5-wood.

He met another ride in Fairway. This required a large 3 iron to approach the green, an example of how long quails could play.

Some players tried to get on the course. Nicolai Hojgaard played the first two holes in the rain, met his tee at No. 3 and then went to the reach.
