The Rich list of the Sunday Times shows that it is time for a wealth tax, say Greens

The Sunday Times's Rich list shows that the extremely rich have to be taxed fairly to save our public services, said the Scottish Greens.

The list unveiled that in Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo, the wife of the CEO of Brewdog, James Watt, as the richest person in Scotland under 40 years was created with a fortune of £ 425 million.

The richest person in Scotland as a whole is the Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, the CEO of the bestsellers of international retail clothing and the largest shareholder on ASOS.

He is said to have recorded an increase in the GBP of 974 million and increases its net assets to £ 7.704 billion.

Green MSP Ross Greer said that it is now clearer than ever that a wealth tax must be introduced.

According to investigations by the tax Justice Network, an annual wealth tax of 1% of net assets of over 10 million GBP could collect by almost £ 10 billion a year and only affect the richest 0.4% of the population.

Greer (below) said: “Last year Labor used claims about the lack of money to justify cuts in the winter fuel payment of the pensioners and the significant support for disabled people.

“This rich list shows this claim of a lack of money for what it is – a lie that is supposed to protect the extremely rich from paying its fair stock.

“This is assets that they could not spend in a hundred life, but with which we were able to finance our hospitals, schools and services that are needed to end the scandal of child poverty. Instead, yachts, private jets and the purchase of land that belong to communities are given.

“This starts fairly with the taxation of the assets and uses the money to build a more fair, environmentally friendly society.”

Almost all of Scotland's richest people recorded her prosperity last year, according to the Times.
