Actiona welcomes 32 million R 32 million conservation order, but requires a broader accountability in the corruption scandal of asbestos

Actiona welcomes the recent preservation of the preservation of 32 million R, which was granted by the High Court of the Free State High Court and aims at assets that are connected to people in connection with the notorious asbestos residential scandal of 255 million R255 million. This is a lengthy and critical step of the National Prosecutor's Office (NPA) in the recovery of public funds that were stolen from the people of the Free State under the guise of the service.

While this development signals some progress in the broader striving for justice, we are clear eyes: this is not enough. The scale of corruption, the number of accused and the suffering that endangered communities has been added, require a much more comprehensive reaction.
This order, the six immovable properties and a luxury vehicle frozen with looted means, should be the beginning and not the end. We are still deeply concerned about the fact that the former Premier Ace Magashule, which is of central importance for the political machinery in the period of this major reasons, is not included in this specific conservation regulation. His exclusion raises serious questions, especially when he is accused of 17 others in criminal proceedings that have been attracted to repeated delays for years.

The people of the Free State earn more than symbolic action. They deserve justice that are quick, complete and impartial. The asbestos apartment tender scandal is not only a financial crime, but also a betrayal of public trust and a violation of human rights. Thousands of houses still contain dangerous asbestos, and families continue to live under dangerous conditions without recourse or relief.

We repeat our reputation for:
• The immediate implementation of the recommendations of the Zondo Commission to this scandal.
• Accelerated criminal prosecution of all those affected, including political figures and their private sector.
• Full recovery of assets to ensure that stolen funds are returned to communities that have been robbed.
• Transparent reporting by the NPA on the progress of the asbestos case and all associated loss of assets.

Actiona will continue to be responsible for those in power and will not rest if the free state is free of corruption. This preservation order is a positive step, but we demand the full measure of justice for every citizen whose life has been affected by this shameful chapter.

If you do not let this be a different heading, let it be the beginning of the true, people centered justice.
