Friday morning Cohoes Road Crash kills drivers

A 36-year-old man was declared dead in the Albany Medical Center after an accident with a vehicle on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. when the vehicle left the road and hit a tree near the Cohoes Road (State Route 32) under the alternative State Route 7 overpass.

Rescue workers from the Colonie Police Department, together with the fire brigades Maplewood, Boght, Latham and Schuyler Heights and Colonie Ems, arrived at the scene. The driver, who was the sole resident of the vehicle, was liberated by the fire brigades and taken to the hospital by Colonia Ems.

The driver's identity is held back until the next Kin is notified. The cause of the crash is currently being examined by the traffic safety department of the Colonie Police Department.

The Cohoes Road was closed in both directions for several hours after the crash, but has opened again since then. The authorities ask everyone with additional information, including eyewitness accounts or video surveillance, to contact the Colonie Police Traffic Safety Division under number 518-783-2754.
