Live Review: Death Machine + Sasha Adrian near Dexter, Odense 09/05/25

I have been writing about Death Machine's folk electronics music since 2020 when I discovered the album orbit And since then they have been an integral part of my turntable and in my Bluetooth headphones. Knowing that the band in Great Britain will probably not play so soon, but with a few appearances in their home Denmark to advertise their new album Annoying eyesMy partner and I decided to treat ourselves to a gig tourism and go to Odense to see them playing in Dexter (named after the jazz -tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon).

Odense is a city with wide streets and low buildings. We hiked through the Munich Park full of Danish, who enjoyed the sunshine, and the fish ladder passed along the meandering river. Odense (extremely OH-Den-Nee) is the home of Hans Christian Anderson or as the women who led the excellent skatehouse shop, said: “The fairytale stuff”. We drank in Christian Firmal -flying couch beer, when the afternoon sun warmed the red bricks that were omnipresent in the city, the tea at the harbor of North Atlantis Hus and Cocktails in the inner houses Street Food Storms Parkhus and stumbling over a jam in the mix. to reveal the stage.

Support Act Sasha Adrian took most of her set from her EP October 2024 Sleeve This is a number of warm indie pop songs in the same postcode as artists as Sharon van Etten and Courtney Barnett. She plays solo tonight. When she switched between nylon and electrogitarians, it released the darker elements of certain songs like 'Free Of Dir', which climbed on the EP, but became strongly intimate when they were only withdrawn to their trembling voice and guitar. She kept the audience from the opening number in Thrall and even managed to encourage her to scream together with the line.Cold -blooded murderer“On the trail of 'IMDB'.

Tonight the core members of Death Machine von Jesper Mogensen (Vocals & Gitarre), Sven Busck Andersen (drums), Morten Vinther Ørberg (bass and guitar) and Simon Christensen (keyboards) by Julie Dybvad* (vocals and guitar) and Vilhelm (keybee) (keyboards). I already thought that the sound of the band was a broad image, but the additional musicians and the live atmosphere did everything Cinemascope. They opened with three traces of Annoying eyesThe swirling “opium wound” with its repetitive Japanese keyboard motif and crashing chords beat the drum, which jumps like the dream of a space stromer, and the urgent piano distance from “ATMs”.

Tracks from previous albums were between new songs cocoon And orbit. The audience was with an outstanding selection such as the processionary 'Cocoon', the autumn delicacies of 'Bring It Back', Isle of Mine 'and' Bleak '(one of my favorites), all of which like a roaring night like a roaring camp and a cold night like a roared campfire and a cold night. Towards the end of the set, the mutual appreciation between musicians and the audience was noticeable and “modern man”, the outstanding track on Annoying eyesBring a huge jubilation. “Up” and “Papercuts” close the set and let people smile considerably and full of smile when they went to the Merch stand.

Death Machine are extraordinary musicians who have made the complexity of their game effortless. Wonderful, high -flying synthesizers, heartbreaking piano, rotating guitar riffs, two chord lines and solid drums that hold the core together when the bass danced part of the rhythm section around the roots. But the great revelation was the two voices that were made like peanut butter and jam for each other. Jesper Mogensen has one of my favorite voices and often doubles his own vocals and harmonies, but tonight is in combination in combination with the beautiful voice of Julie Dybvad True Magic. If you know the sound of the feet that sings with Kings of Convenience Ruard on a empty street Then it was just as fabulous as both singers and one voice of two were together with one voice.

Denmark is a long way to see if a band can deliver live live what they loved in recording for years, and it is easy to say that they have exceeded my hopes and unlocked a new level of appreciation for music in me.

* It was only at the show that I realized that I had previously checked Julie Dybvad's music in her incarnation as a beautiful appearance and EP of the same name. Apparently more music comes, which indeed makes me very happy.
