Moran introduces laws in response to the fatal flight accident of Kansas near the DC Airport

Washington (KCTV) – The Senator of Kansas, Jerry Moran, introduced laws to improve flight safety in highly volume air spaces after a fatal accident in January near Reagan Airport in Washington, DC.

Moran, Chairman of the Commercial Committee on Aviation, Room and Innovation, proposed laws according to which all aircraft operated in the airspace of class B, the automatically dependent monitoring broadcast (ADS-B) request.

Class B airspace is designated for a highly volume airspace, which usually surrounds some of the most American airports, including Reagan Airport. In a publication on Friday, Moran found that the transport secretary can currently give exceptions to certain aircraft to fly with ADS-B systems in the overloaded airspace.

Moran's legislation would prohibit these exceptions to be granted.

“The tragic collision with medium air on January 29 and the two recent failures at the Reagan National Airport show an urgent need for improvements in flight safety to ensure that the airspace near some of the busiest airports in our country is safe,” said Moran. “In this legislation, certain aircraft in airspace such as DCA are transferred and receive important follow -up data in order to protect yourself and better carry out the air traffic control that will better carry out landings and starts.

“The army and the FAA have to work in full with the national transportation Safety Board while continuing their investigations, and the flight restrictions around the DCA have to exist until all investigations have been completed.”

The legislation follows the accident in January, in which 67 people were killed after an American airline collided with a helicopter from the army.

After the crash, the NTSB emphasized that the military helicopter did not exceed the ads BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB. In March, the FAA announced a prerequisite that all planes that fly around DCA in class B airspace switches off the ADS-B.
