Video shows a partially implosion by Peoria Bridge – NBC Chicago

Since the work on the demolition of the McClugage Bridge in Peoria was continued, Video showed the partial implosion of the structure in the east on Friday, which will later be replaced by a new bridge.

The original section over the bridge to the east, which was opened in 1948 and extends over the Illinois River, is demolished in eight phases in a process that started in March and runs until next month.

According to officials, the bridge is to be replaced by a “new structure that corresponds to the region's transport needs”.

The new bridge will include bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and at the same time increase capacity by adding a third track and a shoulder, officers said.

The explosion on Friday marked the fifth of eight implosions, whereby the data of the remaining three demolition was still determined.
