The new report emphasizes the concerns of Georgia's parents in terms of nutritional security and resources for health care

Atlanta, GA. (Atlanta News First) – Parents across Georgia were concerned about the proposed editions for federal expenditure that could have an impact on programs that support more than a million children in the state.

Legislators in Washington are currently discussing the reduction of the most important federal initiatives, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid. These programs offer essential support for food, health care and early educational support for families in need.

A new report by the School of Medicine at Emory University called “The State of Child Health and Welling” underlines what many parents have said for years they need more help, not less.

“It is a temperature test,” said Dr. Stephen Patrick, the senior researcher behind the study. “There is a child and a story behind every data point.”

The results are strong: food uncertainty affects 36% of Georgia families, more than double the national average of 17.9%. In the meantime, 91% of the parents surveyed the support that provided free school meals for all children, a proposal that repeatedly passed in Georgia legislation.

Despite the widespread support for parental support for such programs, the latest federal budget proposal, which is generally referred to as “the big calculation” – billions of dollars to cuts of Medicaid and Snap.

“Everyone benefits when the children are doing well,” said Adriee Pinkney, a mother in Georgia.

The emory report also throws red flags about the access of children for health care. About 41% of Georgia children are enrolled in Medicaid, one of the largest security network programs in the country. However, Patrick notes that the reporting does not always meet access.

“We asked the parents: If your child has a diagnosis of mental health, you will receive most?” He said. “You need insurance, but you also need access to the services that help.”

The researchers hope that the report will lead to political decision -makers who better reflect the needs and concerns of families in Georgia.
