The incident occurred around 7.40 p.m. on the west side of the city near the motorway and the Wyoming Avenue.

According to the state police, a soldier with the Metro South Post conducted a traffic freezer when he and the suspect reported on a dispute. The soldier then said the suspect shot him, so he replied the fire and fatally beat the suspect.

At that time it is unclear where the suspect was accepted and how often. The state police identified the suspect as a 41-year-old man from Highland Park. He was taken to the hospital by the Detroit Police Department.

The soldier was shot three times, twice in his vest and once in his shoulder, officials said.

He was brought to Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit for medical treatment. MSP says the soldier is in stable condition and is fine. His family met him in the hospital.

The soldier has not yet been identified, but civil servants say that he had been in the department for about a year.

Several members of the Michigan State Police also went to the hospital.

The MSP director Col. James F. Grady II thanked both medical staff and the Detroit police for the help of the injured soldier.

“I would like to thank the medical staff here at Sinai Grace to ensure that they take care of our soldiers and the Detroit police medically in order to safely transport the soldiers for medical help,” said Grady.

He said he spoke to the soldier after shooting. Grady said the soldier's vest has probably saved his life.

“This has been the second time in the past few weeks that we had a soldier who was injured or shot, and without this west it would be a completely different conversation,” said Grady. “And this is another memory of how the men and women are the MSP or other police officers in this state and in this nation, as we risk our lives every day to protect everyone.”

The investigators have not yet said what caused the argument that led to the shootout.

A pistol was recovered and the suspect's vehicle was towed late Friday evening.

The streets in the area were blocked for the investigation.

The Task Force of the DPD, which includes Detectives from Detroit and MSP, examines the incident.
