How Shotspotter changes the crime reaction times in Pueblo

Pueblo – In two separate shootings that were only a few hours away, the Pueblo police reacted within minutes after the first shot. But your quick answer did not come from a 911 call. It came from a technology called Shotpotter, a gunning detection system that is currently active on six square kilometers of the city.

“Shotspotter comes from a company called Soundhinking,” said deputy boss Jim. “It is a shooting system that we have implemented in our community.”

In contrast to conventional emergency response, which is based on witnesses or victims to report a shootout, Shotspotter listens to the sound of shots around the clock. When shots are recognized, the system confirms it via a remote analyst and immediately notifies dispatchers, who then forward the place to service-free officers.

“As soon as this shot is discovered, he is sent to an office in another part of the country where she checked the shot and then returned it to our shipping center, where the officers can be alerted,” said the deputy boss.

In the event of a recent incident, the police were on site long before a call from 911 entered.

“We received a Shotpotter alarm at 4:09 a.m.,” said an officer, “and then received a citizens' call at 4:12 a.m.

The accuracy is striking, officers say they are within six feet where shots were fired. This speed and precision have made it possible for you to provide 21 people with life -saving help, which it would not have been possible in the past.

According to Pueblo PD, 85 to 90 percent of the cases of shots are never reported by the residents. Here Shotpotter fills the gap and immediately provides critical information, even if a victim or witness cannot.

But the technology doesn't stop here. The department is also preparing to use drones as first aiders. These will start from strategic locations in the city to offer the officials on site in real time video and overwatch.

AN are the civil servants of civil servants, since the police employees are still tight, tools such as shotpotter and community support.

“The inclusion of the technology was a force multiplier,” said deputy boss Jim. “Our officers have the ability to be more proactive.”

However, the police emphasize that technology alone is not sufficient. “As a community, citizens and police officers, we have to work together to promote crime in our community,” he said. “We are a family and we have to rely on each other to get through it together. And we'll do it.”
