Mississippi State Catcher leaves the game in Missouri

This story has been updated to add new information.

The baseball start -up catcher of Mississippi State, Joe Powell, injured the game on May 16 with an injury.

The injury occurred in the seventh inning in the Taylor Stadium, as Powell, a senior graduate, put a short floor ball, first turned and got out of it. He fell to the ground and the training staff rated him, but Powell was able to leave the field with his own power.

Ross Highfill replaced Powell in the field.

The Bulldogs (33-20, 14-15 seconds) later received three parking spaces in a 13: 3 run of the Rule against the Tigers (16-37, 3-26).

Joe Powell injury update

Interim coach Justin Parker gave a short update to Powell's status during a radio interview after the game ended.

“I'm not sure yet,” he said. “I think a kind of back. Perhaps his back has tightened a little. We just have to take him a look at it tonight and see what it looks like for tomorrow.”

Who is the backup catcher of the Mississippi State?

Powell was not the starting catcher who started the season, but because of his bat and defense, took the job from Highfill. He started eight games in a row and 12 of the last 14 at Catcher. If Powell cannot play, Highfill will probably take its place in the starting line -up, especially when Jackson Owen is injured.

It is the third violation of the series for the state Mississippi. In game 1 on May 15, the left field player Gehrig left freely for an unpleasant landing while he slipped into the third basis. The reserve outfield Aaron Downs also left this game after being hit in the face with a field.

Free and downs did not play on May 16, but both were listed as games, which may indicate that their injuries will not be long -term.

Joe Powell statistics

Powell started 28 games this season and bats .284 with seven Homeruns, 33 RBIs and 17 runs.
