Falmouth Racing Sailor returns to the competition after a brain injury

A sailor from Falmouth, who has survived a life-threatening brain injury, will return to the offshore race.

British sailor Robin Elsey-Webb, who takes over the Rorc season 2025, said he wanted people to know that there is “life after brain injury”.

His injuries due to the attack abroad included several severe skull fractures, bleeding on the brain and a broken neck.

He then subjected an emergency neurosurgery and spent two weeks in intensive care and another two weeks to monitor outpatient.

This year's sailing campaign for Robin will see him in addition to experienced offshore racing drivers Stuart Sawyer, who made the project possible through the use of his yacht.

Robin said he hoped that his return to racing could share a message with others affected by brain injuries.

He said, “Life is different now, but that doesn't mean it is over.

“I want people to know that there is a life after brain injury.

“I am very aware of how happy I am still doing what I love and hopefully inspire other survivors to urge their goals.”

As part of the campaign, Kernow Ocean Racing has supported progress UK, the charity organization for brain injuries that offer services for injury survivors and their families.
