The Papes silver medal highlights the first day of WKU at Cusa championships

The athletics teams of Western Kentucky completed the opening day at the Outdoor Championships of the Conference in the USA on Friday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Natalie Papes was the first Hilltopper to deserve a medal at an event and was in a second brand in women's pole vault.

The meeting began with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. In decathlon, Joey Raybourne finished three times in the top three. Blake Foster led top-five surfaces three times in the first leg of the event.

In the men's hammer throw, Kaison Barton achieved a fifth place in the event with a brand of 57.47 meters. In the long jump of the men, Sterling Weldon won fourth place with a brand of 7.62 meters.

In the first track event of the day, Kalina Urbaniak, the 1,500 of the women 1,500, made a top 10 place with a 4 minutes and 35 second mark. Their degree together with Nayla Martin's 12th place brought them both place in the final.

At the men's event, Trevor Hudnall made a fifth place to qualify for the 1,500 meter final.

Papes made the first medal finish for the Hilltoppers in the pole vault of women. Your brand of 4.02 meters was good for second place and a personal best. Papes claimed the only medal of the day for WKU and her brand not only brought her the silver medal, but also a PR with a brand of 4.02 meters. This is also the fifth best brand in the program history.

Camerone Horton managed to qualify for the 100-meter final on Sunday and to set a new personal best of 10.26, which is good for seventh place.

Van Thrasher earned a fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles and took a PR that was good enough to qualify for the final on Sunday at 6.40 p.m.

Five Hilltoppers managed to qualify for final events in their respective events on the route. Five did a new personal best when the events of the day were awarded.

WKU will continue on Saturday in Murfreesboro at the Outdoor Championships of the Conference USA. The campaign is expected to start at 9:30 a.m. The meeting is streamed live on ESPN+.
