The star of the west coast, Adam Selwood, was remembered with an infectious personality after his death at the age of 41.

Selwood's death in Perth on Saturday took place three months after his identical twin and former AFL player Troy Selwood died.

Adam Selwood played 187 games for West Coast, including the Premiership 2006, before withdrawing from football in 2013.

“Today we are broken by the death of Adam with a broken heart. Words cannot express the grief and sadness that we feel,” said the Selwood family in an explanation about AFL on Saturday.

“Adam was a loving husband and an incredible father of Lenny and Billie. We are destroyed to lose such a wonderful husband, father, son and brother.

“We will miss Adam deeply – his spirit, his kindness and the joy he brought into every room. His determination, the lessons he shared, and his infectious personality will always stay with us.

“Adam had a unique ability to give people the feeling of being something special, and our family was lucky enough to experience it every day.

“Please ask for privacy while we navigate this difficult time.”

Members of the famous Selwood family of AFL, Adam and Troy, were brothers of the Geelong Champions Joel Selwood and the former midfielder of Eagles and Cats, Scott Selwood.

Troy Selwood, who played 75 games for the Brisbane Lions, died in February and was remembered by Adam as the “built -in best buddy” at his funeral.

Adam said the writing of the laudation was the “most difficult” that he ever had to do.

“An identical twin is both a rare and a wonderfully complex privilege,” said Adam in February at Troy's Memorial Service at the GMHBA Stadium.

“A twin is more than a sibling. They are a constant presence, an integrated best buddy and someone who understands it so that nobody could ever.

“Troy was not just my brother, he was my mirror, my most violent competitor, my greatest ally and the one person who knew what I always thought.

“Losing him has left a massive hole in my life.”

“Adam was a great teammate who loved the club and loved his footy,” said Worsfold in an explanation.

“He always put his friends and teams in the first place and would say that now. He would want to see that our club is growing and returning to success in the field.

“We moved in at 18 and growing him as a player and person.

“We have got to know the Selwood family so well over the years, and they are so wonderful people that our hearts today work out more than anything.”

The AFL managing director Andrew Dillon said that he could not imagine how the Selwood family's pain.

“In the name of the AFL and all of our clubs, I would like to send our love to his wife Fiona and her two children, Mare and Bryce Selwood, Joel and Scott, and their families as well as their families as well as Adams many friends and colleagues and former teammates on the west coast and for all football,” said Dillon in a explanation.
