What does '86' mean? The term in Comey's social media post has changed over time.

In the promise to investigate James B. Comey, the former FBI director Trump administrator referred to his obvious reference to a slang term on Instagram, which it described it as a call to murder the president.

The photo of Mr. Comey showed mussels on the beach, which was arranged to spell “86 47” with the caption: “Cool Shell formation on my beach walk”. It was suspected that the “47” refers to President Trump, the 47th President of the United States, and “86” is a term that is usually used by restaurants to mean if they are from a menu item or from bars as well as in military and intelligence circles to throw something – or someone.

But in some contexts the term has developed to mean something more scary: to eliminate or kill.

According to lexicologist, the term “86” began as a diner shorthand in the early 20th century.

“In the 30s and 40s there were numerical codes in guests,” said Jesse Sheidlower, an extraordinary professor at Columbia University, whose specialty is Slang. “A glass of water is one -hour, 82 is two glasses of water, 89 is a pretty girl, and 86 means that they are out of a little more.”

Even today it is not unusual to see number 86 on menu limestone plates in the dining room and in the white boards in kitchens.

However, Slang definitions are shifting to slip around, and terms can mean different things, depending on who uses.
