A bus driver who fell into a café in the Manchester city center and killed a woman received a suspended sentence.

The 77 -year -old Almena Amica, who was known as Mena, died in the hospital after the bus hit the T4 Bubble Tea Cafe in Piccadilly Gardens in October 2023. Eleven other people were injured.

Khalid Mahmood, 66, previously guilty of causing death through dangerous driving.

He received a two -year suspended prison sentence and was banned from driving for five years.

Several passengers and pedestrians suffered from minor injuries.

Mahmood from Eccles had claimed that the crash was a result of a considered vehicle, said the police from Greater Manchester.

However, a forensic specialist for the reconstruction officer found that this was not the case, with his report to come to the conclusion that this was done due to a failure of the brakes.

After Mahmood had been convicted, Menaa's sister described her as a woman who “dedicated to her family, friends and faith”.

“It is impossible to transfer the influence of my sister's death to put into words, bring feelings into words, to transfer the feeling of the absence of Mena into words,” she said.

“Mena was my last living siblings, we had so many plans together, but her future was taken away from her and our joint plans were taken away.”

She thanked the police and the charity organization brake for her support.

“I am also very grateful to all members of the public who went to Mena's help at the time of the incident and for the flowers that were left in their memory,” she added.
