The former American basketball player could be exposed to a death penalty in the event of a drug

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN Newsource/CNN Indonesia/WKRC) – Former American college basketball player Jarred Shaw is suspended in Indonesia with serious drug accusations, which could lead to lifelong prison or even a death penalty if they are convicted.

Shaw, a 34-year-old from Dalla's Dallas, who played for the Tangerang Hawks, was arrested in Jakarta on May 7th. According to The Independent, Shaw has been playing in Indonesia since 2022.

The authorities accused Shaw that they tried to smuggle drugs into the country. During a search of his apartment, the police allegedly discovered more than 100 Delta 9-THC-Cannabis sweetness. Officials reported that a package contained the sweets was sent from Thailand to Shaw's apartment.

Ronald Sipayung, the police chief of Sokarno-Hatta Airport, said Shaw said to the police that he intended to share the cannabis sweetness with his teammates.

“We are still carrying out the examination to uncover the international drug network behind this case and stop its distribution,” said Sipayung.

The chairman of the Indonesian basketball association emphasized the strict attitude of the organization against drug use in basketball and explained: “He does not tolerate drug use in basketball.”

In response to the fees, Shaw's team announced that his contract was terminated.

Before his time in Indonesia, Shaw played in the United States in the state of Oklahoma and Utah State College basketball.

According to CNN, there are around 530 people in Indonesia in the death cell, mainly because of drug crimes, including 96 foreigners.
