The failure took several hours without immediate technical explanation, which led to a flood of online speculations as to whether shutting down with the setback or a coordinated campaign was related.

While no official cause was confirmed, critics and supporters questioned the timing, with some of the user traffic to point out fire comments on potential internal disorders or a flood of user traffic according to Trump. Neither Trump Media nor the White House made an explanation that dealt with the downtime of the platform.
