Chicago (WLS) – In some cities in Illinois, shoplifting, calling 911 too often or even a victim of a crime can be driven out of their home.

The laws were funded to clear up violent criminals and disruptive tenants. However, an investigation by the New York Times and the Illinois answers shows that many cities in Illinois have replaced families for smaller or even false violations.

The lawyers for housing have long argued that the laws are discriminatory because they fall disproportionately to residents with low income and colored. You can read the full investigation of the use of these criminal housing laws in Illinois at Illinoisanswers.org.
