Mystics Rookie Georgia Amoore suffers an ACL injury during the training camp

Washington Mystics training camp has an unfavorable start when the team announced on Wednesday that Rookie Georgia Amoore suffered an ACL injury during the training on Tuesday.

Amoore was the sixth choice in the WNBA design of this month, which left a college career behind when she was one of three players in the history of division I to publish at least 2,300 points and 800 templates (to Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark). When the mystics entered an era of reconstruction through the design, Amoore was ready to be the Point Guard of the future. This duty roster only includes combo guards such as Brittney Sykes or Young Point Guards with even less experience than the 24-year-old amoore.

Amoore missed only one game during her college career and extended over four seasons at Virginia Tech and with Kentucky. She also took part in the annual DAWG class from Kelsey Plum after the design.

Washington has not stated that Amoore had suffered an ACL tear, only that “amoore and the team examine treatment and rehabilitation options and, if necessary, provide an update”. However, ACL injuries generally require surgery to stabilize the knee, and Amoore would probably prioritize their long-term health with the mystics who are probably not competitive this season.

Two other WNBA players in their rookie contracts suffered in this low season ACL injuries: Nika Mühl and Jordan Horston. The storm in Seattle both hung for the 2025 season. Washington could do the same with amoore if it is found that it cannot return. However, the mystics do not need space for the salary and were able to decide to pay their contract while leaving the possibility that the rookie will play later in the year.
