Joliet Police Sergeant, 47, killed in car accidents, says the department

SGT. Hollis Weller, a 20-year-old veteran of the Joliet Police Department, was killed on Friday in a car accident in the southeastern Will County, the department said.

According to a press release, the 47-year-old Weller was a “highly respected and committed 20-year-old veteran” of the department.

What we know:

He was promoted to Sergeant in July 2020 and recently served in the traffic unit of the JPD.

Weller also received numerous awards, including the heroism award in 2015.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

“We ask the public respectfully to keep the family of SGT. Weller and the men and women of the Joliet Police Department in their thoughts and asked to keep unimaginable loss during this time,” said the department in the press release.

What we don't know:

The Joliet police did not announce any details of the crash.
