Off-duty Joliet Police officer killed in the event of a crash-NBC Chicago

A police officer from the service was killed on Friday in an accident with three vehicles in the southeast of Will County, confirmed the Joliet police.

The department announced on Saturday morning that Sergeant Hollis Weller, 47, after the accident, which took place in Beecher on Friday at 11:45 a.m., died, according to Illinois State Police.

The crash, in which a pickup, a passenger vehicle and a commercial motor vehicle were involved, occurred near the intersection of Illinois Route 1 and the Eagle Lake Road. The cause of the crash is currently unknown, officials said.

According to the Joliet police, Weller was promoted to Sergeant in July 2020 and was a 20-year-old veteran of the department.

Weller received numerous awards in his time from the department, including the heroism award in 2015.

According to the department, he is survived by his wife and three children.

No further information was available.
