Representatives conjure up ministers, agencies on the certificate scandal in which Nigerians are involved

The House of Representatives has asked the Minister of Education, Foreign Affairs, Youth Development and Interior to enter into in front of it due to a growing scandal with fake academic certificates received by some Nigerians.

Others are invited to the general director of the National Youth Service Corps (Nysc), the committee of the Vice Chancellor, the National University Commission (NUC), Penlight Media LTD, and Officials of the Ministry for Higher and Scientific Education in the Republic of Benin (Ambassador de la Republique du Benin, Abuja).

The house will hold a public hearing on this matter on Monday, May 19, 2025.

In a declaration published on Saturday in Abuja, the chairman of the joint committee, Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata said that the National Assembly was obliged to uncover the truth behind the fake certificate scandal.

According to Fulata, letters have already been sent to all affected people and institutions, and this public explanation serves as a memory. He also warned that everyone who participates in the hearing would be regarded as corruption in the education sector.

He explained that the probe began after a journalist was covered and revealed the extent of fraudulent practice.

He explained: “The journalist has covered and examined the booming business, a Cotonou university graduation within a few weeks and took part in the Nysc scheme within the shortest time.”

He added: “This unfortunate development in the education system is indeed alarming. It is even more worrying that most Nigerians undergo the process of acquiring educational qualifications according to the specified processes and procedures, however, to acquire their certificates with which they receive jobs and work in various fields of human efforts in this country in this country.”

“The action is not only illegal, but also very dangerous for our collective well -being, our future and the socio -economic development of the country as a whole.”

Hon. Fulata also mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Ministry, Jamb and the Nigerian immigration service have not yet submitted their reports to the committee despite previous inquiries.
