Death in the Joliet Police Department: Off-Duty Sergeant killed when crashed

Joliet, IL-A Supervisor of the Joliet Police Department, who was currently characterizing his 20th anniversary with the department, was killed in a frontal collision in Beecher along Route 1 near Eagle Lake Road on Friday. The Illinois State Police examines the death of the life of Joliet Police SGT. Hollis Weller. Weller joined the Joliet Police Force on May 2, 2005 and was promoted to a Sergeant on July 24, 2020.

The Joliet police authority shared the following information on the Facebook at 10 a.m. on Saturday:

“With profound grief, the Joliet Police Department shares the early farewell of Sergeant Hollis Weller, who died tragically on May 16, 2025 after a motor cruise in the southeastern Will, County from service. Sergeant Weller (47) was a high spad and dedicated 20-year-old unit.

“We ask the public respectfully to keep the family of SGT. Weller and the men and women of the Joliet Police Department in their thoughts and asked for unimaginable loss during this time.”

According to the state police in Illinois, death occurred on Friday at 11.45 a.m. in Will County in Illinois Route 1 in Eagle Lake Road in Beecher. The fatal traffic accident included three vehicles, a commercial motor vehicle, a pick-up truck and a passenger vehicle. One person was dead, the state police advised, and all lanes of vehicle trips at the crime scene were closed.

“No additional information was available at this time,” the state police told Joliet Patch on Friday.
