Boston community to keep a vigil to mourn Boy at school bus

The residents of Hyde Park are planning to gather on Thursday to mourn the death of Lens Arthur Joseph, a 5-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a school bus on Monday.

Joseph was found near the 107 Washington St. on April 28 at 2:44 p.m. after he had been hit by the bus, according to the Boston police department. He died of his injuries in the Boston Children's Hospital.

The meeting on Thursday is organized by the West Fair Lount Hill Community Group, which was founded by the resident Marcia Kimm-Jackson. With Masslive, she confirmed that the event opens for people at 5:55 p.m. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Moynihan playground on the corner of Washington and Faraday Street.

According to a digital flyer by Kimm-Jackson, the vigil is a “Community Comfort Circle”. In the event, “prayers for the family, words of the comfort and the support of the community” will take place.

During a press conference on Monday, Suffolk County, Kevin Hayden, said it was unclear whether the school bus driver would be charged until the examination.

Mary Skipper, superintendent of the Boston Public Schools, said the community mourning “for this heartbreaking loss”.

“We expand our deepest condolences to the family of our students, the school community and everyone who is affected by this tragedy,” was a explanation of the superintendent.

The mayor of the Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu, who was together with Hayden and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, said that she was “able to imagine what this family is experiencing with a broken heart.”

“No parent expects to send your child to school and happen something terrible,” said Wu.
