Chinese couple receives a 2 meter long invoice worth 2.5 LAKH for hotpot wedding with only 140 guests

When a young couple in northern China were looking for a wedding location at the last minute, they chose an unexpected but heartwarming alternative: a hotpot restaurant. The couple, a 26-year-old bride, who re-enacted Zhao and their 27-year-old groom, recently organized their wedding banquet in a Haidilao outlet in Taiyuan, province of Shanxi, and welcomed 140 guests for only 22,000 yuan (approx. $ 3,57).

Transform a setback into a celebration

The couple's original banquet plans were thrown into chaos when their first election of the event location was unexpectedly canceled. In view of the narrow timeline, Zhao said: “In view of the short clues, we could not prepare for a traditional wedding. A friend suggested organizing our wedding in a hotpot restaurant. My husband and I are both fans of Haidilao and once joked that our wedding might take place there. This unexpected cancellation encouraged us to convert this idea into reality.”

A hotpot port for 140 guests

The Taiyuan Haidilao employees hugged the spontaneous celebration and converted the room with festive wall exhibitions, light signs and a lively red balloon arch, which greeted the guests at the entrance. In contrast to conventional banquets, the couple chose a relaxed hotpot meal in the buffet style that focuses on a good society and a joyful atmosphere over the formalities.

Zhao said: “Our wedding was modest on a scale and we didn't accept any money gifts from our guests. We just wanted everyone to have a good time.”

Two-meter bill and a lion dance twist

In a playful twist, the couple even led a lion dance and wrapped aisle through the narrow restaurants to the delight of their guests. “We learned this dance for our wedding and received the props not too long ago,” said Zhao. “The lion dance is a symbol of happiness and an essential part of traditional culture. We hope that it will bring us luck.”

Her unconventional celebration ended with a legislative template that was reported to be two meters, a detail that quickly became a viral sensation in Chinese social media.

A new view of tradition

Since younger generations are looking for increasingly personalized, budget -conscious ways to mark their big day, stories like Zhao are deeply swinging along. Traditional Chinese weddings often have steep costs, whereby in some provinces of bankettic up to 5,000 yuan (700 US dollars). But for Zhao and her husband, the focus was on creating a memory that really reflected her personality.

“In contrast to the expectations of older generations, we young people prefer a simpler, more relaxed approach,” said Zhao. “As long as everyone is happy and we get their blessing, our wedding is really meaningful.” Zhao says she plans to keep the extra long restaurant Bill as an estimated souvenir of her unique celebration.
