Colton Herta flies 500 qualification games with scary crash during Indy and marks the third incident of the weekend

The American driver Colton Herta suffered a scary crash on Saturday during the qualification round of the Indianapolis 500. Herta went in the air and turned his car after turning out and beating a wall.

The 25-year-old driver went away from the car alone and was rated by the medical staff. Indycar later said that Herta was released and clarified to drive.

“Fortunately, these accidents look much more frightening today than they feel – not to say that you felt good,” said Herta about the associated press. “There were no real signs for it. We were very satisfied with the car this morning.

The crash marks the third accident this weekend. The New Zealand driver Marcus Armstrong turned out hours before Herta's wreck on Saturday morning during a training round. Armstrong was warded off from the crash, but later released from the medical staff.

Both Herta and Armstrong's wrecks took place shortly after curve 1, where the drivers can become susceptible to wind gusts.

All of this takes place after Kyffin Simpson also suffered a big wreck during the “Fast Friday” practice and after wiggling in round 4.

Herta can still compete if his team is able to prepare his backup car in good time. According to AP, Herta may not be ready for the qualification on Saturday in the last row on Sunday.

The qualification for the race will take place on Saturday and Sunday before training and events are preparing for race day on Sunday, May 25th.
