Firefighter of Laurel County killed during the Tornado reaction

Laurel County, Ky. (ABC36 News now) – Laurel County's fire brigade announced the death of its own during the Tornado reaction efforts overnight.

According to a post of the department, Major Roger Leslie Leatherman was fatally injured while he supported a tornado that was beating the area.

The department said Major Leatherman served the community for 39 years and devoted his life to the support of others in their needs. “His courage, his commitment and victim will never forget,” was the mail.

The department asks the public to keep Leatherman's family, friends and co -speakers in their thoughts and prayers.

In the course of the search and recovery operations, the officials require the residents to stay away from affected areas so that emergency teams can work safely.

“This is a heartbreaking memory of the dangers with which our first aiders are confronted every day, and the incredible bravery that they show in view of a catastrophe,” said the department.
