Josh Freese says that he no longer drums for the Foo fighter and reveals on Instagram that the band called him at the beginning of this week and told him that they “go in a different direction” but did not give any explanation.

This happened after the lead singer and guitarist Dave Grohl announced on social media to testify a child outside of his marriage and fans who questioned his morals.

“In my 40 years, I never drum professionally from a band, and although I'm not angry – just a little shocked and disappointed,” Freese wrote in a message published on Friday. The 52-year-old musician came into the band in 2023, about a year after the sudden death of the long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Freese continued how he received the news. “The Foo fighters called me on Monday evening to let me know that they decided to go in a different direction with their drummer.” There was no reason, ”he wrote.

The mail surprised many fans, especially those who had entered Freese in Hawkins' death in the high pressure role. Freese is known for his decades of career as a respected session and touring drummer and has played with Nine Inch Nails, Devo, Guns N 'Roses, the Vandals and many others.

He played drums on the album 2023 of the band, but here we are in detail with them when we returned to Hawkins' death.

Despite the unexpected discharge, Freese held his answer and professionally. “Regardless of this, I have enjoyed both and on stage with them for the past two years, and I support everything they think for the band,” he wrote.

He added that in view of his many years of freelance career, he was not excessively concerned.

“But as most of them know, I always worked as a freelancer and came between bands, so I'm fine,” he wrote.

The Foo Fighters did not comment publicly to the Freese exit, and a spokesman for the band did not answer media requests.

The band has also not announced who will replace Freese behind the kit.

Her next planned appearance will take place in October in the Grand Prix of Formula 1 Singapore, which would mark her first public performance since Frontmann Dave Grahl's personal life was made aware of in 2024 after revealing his infidelity.

While Freese remained calm in his next step, other musicians and fans have expressed support for him online, many said that he had a difficult transition with grace and professionalism.

Some fans speculated about a possible return for Hawkin's son Shane, although this did not confirm credible reports.

Freese, who has long been one of the most sought -after drummer in rock, will probably continue his career in a variety of acts. If at all, his short time with Foo Fighters adds an already packed curriculum vitae. “I'm fine,” he said.
