Be black chicago like

Episodic content

What it is: The 29th episode of the independent web series “Black Chicago Be Like” has collected over 1.1 million views since its publication on March 11th. The episode escalates the existing storylines of the series, demonstrates new characters and lands the main character Corporate in increasingly complicated (and funny) predicaments, all in Chicago, with a pronounced blend from drama, comedy and action. The series was developed by the do-it-all creator, writer and narrator Donovan Price Jr. alias corporate bidness. Price Jr. is just one of many black creators who develop episodic script content on YouTube and reach the audience that is underestimated in traditional media.

Why it is important: Black creators have developed episodic shows on YouTube for over a decade. Contemporary black creators continue the tradition and bring it to new heights through a higher production value and a mix of formats. Since more and more spectators YouTube stream on their television, these series are main examples for black storytellers who develop episodic content that intentionally match their experiences.
