Leaker shares new iPhone 17 air details: impressive weight, lackluster battery

In a new post on Naver, Yeux1122 shared two new details about Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air: the battery capacity and weight.

This account is largely used in Chinese social media. It has a somewhat respected track record when it comes to sharing knowledge from the supply chain.

Today's new post shows some important details about the iPhone 17 air, including weight, acial capacity and thickness. These details come from a “mass production confirmed sample”.

It is confirmed that the phone has a 5.5 mm thickness, which the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared in the past. In addition, it reveals two new specifications:

• A weight of approximately 145 g
• Battery capacity of 2800 mAh

Suboptimal battery life

We have recently seen a number of reports on the fact that the iPhone 17 Air has less than an ideal battery capacity. Apple's internal tests find that only about 60-70% of the users are able to get a full day of battery life from the phone. Traditionally, this number is around 80-90%.

The battery capacity of 2800 mAh is not necessarily surprising. This means that it is in the same battery capacity as the almost five-year iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro, both of which shared a 2815 mAh cell in a form factor of 6.1 inches. None of these phones had a star rental rental, but it was certainly not terrible.

According to reports, Apple also implements an AI-powered battery optimization function in iOS 19, which probably helps less than ideal battery capacity. As a reference, iPhone 16 offers a 3561MAH battery and iPhone 16 Plus a 4674mAh battery.

This means that iPhone 17 Air has a reduction of about 20% of a standard iPhone and about 40% of an iPhone with a similar screen size.
