Points from Taunton against La Salle softball game on Saturday, May 17th, 2025

play

The best softball team in Rhode Island can be beat.

All you need is the best team in Massachusetts to do it.

Saturday was as good as for the local softball like La Salle, the two -time defending champion of Rhode Island State, host Taunton, the four -time Massachusetts State Champion. The Rams met first, but came apart in the sixth and the tiger used it to get the 7: 4 victory out.

Both teams will be won over the state titles in their respective states this spring and both arrived at Brown University with impressive victory strips. Taunton's last loss came on May 22, 2023, a 1-0 defeat against the rival King Phillip. The last loss of La Salle came almost a month earlier, an 8: 5 defeat against Cranston West on April 24, 2023. Something had to give something.

The Rams did not waste time to get on the board first, and it was no surprise how it happened. Phoenyx Silva, the three-time all-steter, went to the University of Iowa to play next spring, was caught behind 1-2 in counting, kept the bat while running and then hit a ball to the moon, a solo home to make it 1-0 after the first inner.

Taunton Miscues helped La Salle to expand the lead in the third. Samantha Sell was set by Tiger Starter Catherine Larson, and after a groundout, Alivia Barry reached a wrong ball from the second Baseman Madison Crowley.

Diana Hall followed with a single and Silva managed to score. Lily Roumelis followed with a groundout that made it 3-0.

The tour looked safe. Through five innings, La Salle Starter Hailey Vigneau cooked the tiger. Outside of a triple in the first inn, from which Vigneau escaped, Taunton had a lot to do with everything Vigneau had to offer. After the triple of Mia Torres, Vigneau 14 of the next 16 Taunton grabs retired.

Things changed drastically in the sixth.

A Bloop single from Corraro started things. Torres followed with an Infield -Single and Bella Bourques fly ball in the middle was misunderstood, booted and was not picked up so that two runs could score a goal.

Bailey followed with a single to the left on another misunderstood ball and after an out Larson took a walk and a single from Gracie Oliveira loaded the bases. Ashlyn Hebert met a hard size to third place that Silva fell cleanly and fired home, but Samantha Sell could not come up with the game on the plate and Bailey came in with the start.

Vigneau followed with a huge strike, but Victoria Corraro tore a triple left field that cleared the bases to make it 7-3.

La Salle tried to gather in the lower half, but Kayleigh Venturas Leadoff -Single was deleted on a double game on a beautiful hook from Oliveira, who stepped onto the pocket for the second time. Kershaw followed with a triple and Vigneau scored a single to bring her in, but the goals stopped there for La Salle.

Larson was best when Taunton needed her the most. In front of the top of the La Salle Order – Alivia Ring, Silva and Diana Hall – Larson induced a groundout, a soft liner and a groundout that ended the game. Larson ended the day that spread seven goals over seven innings while giving up three deserved runs and exceeding five.

The loss will serve the fire from La Salle to fuel if it ends the regular season this week. On Tuesday, the Rams Smithfield, a team, organized the Rams on the opening day in a 3-1 game before closing the regular season at Pilgrim on Thursday.

La Salle has already secured seeds No. 1 for the upcoming playoffs of Division I.
