Viral video of the priest, the Puri Temple Essen on the Esstisch Sparks Row served

A video of a family that eats the Mahaprasad from Puris Jagannath shrine on the dining table has inspired a controversy in Odisha. The Mahaprasad is the sacred food, the Lord Jagannath, the deity of the 12th century temple, is offered and traditionally served and eaten while sitting on the floor.

At least 10 family members, including children, were seen at the dining table in a beach resort in Puri while a priest served them the Mahaprasad.

When a man confronted her, a woman claimed to have asked herself before deciding to eat at the table. The unimaginated man then turned to the priest and wanted to know why he allowed it, the video showed.

Since the video was raised viral and concerns among the Jagannath supporters, the temple authorities made an explanation in which it was against the tradition of eating the Mahaprasad at the table.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (Sjta) said that the picture that shows that Mahaprasad was eaten on the table, which was against the tradition and had caused a “reaction” of the followers.

The Mahaprasad is divine and has to be eaten on the ground while sitting, the Sjta said and asked supporters to maintain the centuries -old traditions of the temple.

In view of the local feelings and religious beliefs, the temple authorities also asked hotels in Puri to warn their guests of such activities.
