At least 19 people were injured when the training ship of the Mexican Navy collapsed against the Brooklyn Bridge in New York on Saturday evening. A sailor was dangled by belts high in the air and waited for help.
A Mexican naval ship, Cuauhtemoc, hit the Brooklyn bridge with the tip of his mast, which stilt the legendary span through the East River. The videos of the collision showed the mast of the ship, which pleaded a huge green, white and red Mexican flag and scratched under the bridge.

Two eyewitnesses, Sydney Neidell and Lily Katz, told the Associated Press that they would sit outside to watch the sunset as they saw the ship snapped on the bridge and one of his masts. When they looked closer, they saw someone who was high on the ship.

“We saw someone dangling and I couldn't say whether it was just blurred or my eyes, and we were able to zoom on on our phone, and at least 15 minutes before they could save them, someone was dangling from above,” said Katz. They said they had seen two people who pulled out of the ship on the stock exchanges on smaller boats.

2 dead, several injured

Eric Adams, Mayor of New York City, said that the 142-year-old bridge had spared great damage, but at least 19 people on the ship would have to need medical treatment after the crash. Adams died two of the four people who suffered serious injuries later.

The Mexican Navy said in a post on the social platform X that the Cuauhtemoc, an academy training vessel, was damaged in an accident with the Brooklyn Bridge that prevented it from continuing its journey. It also added that the status of the staff and material of naval and local authorities was checked that supported support.
