'Enzo' is a “victory against death”

Enzo is much more than researching the discomfort of a boy with the social class of his family. It turns out that director Robin Campillo tells The Hollywood ReportsR that the French film is actually the last hurray of his long-time friend and Cannes Palmen d'Or winner Laurent.

“It is really a film by Laurent Cantet and Cantet's Cantet,” says Campillo, the de -Facto caretaker of Enzowho met his filmmaker for the first time in 1983. “I did the job in a way, but it's really a film from him and I think it's a victory against death that this film exists.”

Cantet wrote the script for a 16-year-old (Eloy Pohu) who opposes the expectations of his bourgeois family by starting a masonry study. He also intended to steer it – but a cancer diagnosis listened to Cantent's 18th film. He died in April 2024 and drove the staff to Campillo. “I would be in every step of the film,” explains the director of the BPM (Beats per minute) 2017. “The casting, preparation and the shootout because we feared this [Cantet] Would be too tired to talk to the camera manemic with the technicians. So I would be like an assistant, but a very personal assistant … I wanted to edit the film with him [too]But shortly after the casting he got sick very quickly and died very quickly. “

“Before he died, we spoke together when he was in the hospital and we decided that we told him Isabelle and the producer Marie-Ananging Luciani that we would be very happy to end the film for him. And he was very touched by it.”

As Campillo describes it, Enzo is not an ordinary story of a brooding teenager, but an analysis of the extensive pressure on the shoulders of young people in an increasingly chaotic world. “You have to choose very quickly what you will do in your life,” he says. “And it is a chaos – Ukraine, Gaza, all this violence, the elections in [the U.S.]. We are in a very difficult moment … and we ask young people to do so [know exactly] What you want to do, who you want to be. But we have an messy world to promote it and promise them. “

While Cantet's film is not about a rebel son, Enzo shocked his parents by falling in love with an older Ukrainian man on the construction site where he works. “I think there was something for Laurent that he liked to young people – they are sexually fluid. Campillo adds: “I think Cannes is the right place [for Enzo]. The audience will be a lot [Cantet’s] Friends, many people with whom he worked in the cinema industry. It is not a dark film, it is bright. It will be like a festival and, I think, something very happy. “
