Brooklyn Bridge Ship Ship Crash kills two people

Two people died and 19 others were injured after a Mexican naval training ship on Sunday, Mayor of New York City with the Brooklyn Bridge, was summarized with Brooklyn Bridge.

The Mexican Navy reported that two crew members died during the crash and another 22 were injured, with half of these injuries being critical.

The Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum pressed her deep sadness about the death of the two crew members on X.

The New York chief of police from Special Operations, Wilson Aramboles, said at a press conference that the ship had lost power around 8:20 p.m. (0020 GMT Sunday), while the captain maneuvered the ship and made it to drive towards the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

Several sailors on the ship were injured in the collision, although it remains unclear whether they were among the deceased.

Eyewitnesses Nick Corso, 23, described the scene as “panic on the ship”, whereby screaming and seafarers hang on the damaged masts. He didn't see anyone falling into the water.

The Mexican Navy made it clear that nobody fell into the water and that no rescue operation was started. At the time of the incident, the ship left New York and showed flags and a large Mexican flag at the rear.

Another eyewitness, Arturo Acatitla, 37, said that the ship left the moments of the dock before its lights collided with the bridge and fell the seafarers.

Despite the collision, the New York traffic department reported “no signs of structural damage to the Brooklyn Bridge” after the first inspections. The bridge that Brooklyn and Manhattan connected was temporarily closed before the reopening.

The Mexican ambassador Esteban Moctezuma Barragan announced a press conference that the injured were brought to hospitals. After the incident, sirens were heard nearby.

The Aramboles of the NYPD identified the Cuauhtemoc built in 1982 with a mast height of 48.2 meters (158 feet) and found that it was on the way to Iceland. The Mexican embassy had previously celebrated the arrival of the ship in Manhattan with Mariachi music and Volksballet.

The Mexican Navy confirmed the damage to the Cuauhtemoc and confirmed its commitment to the security of his staff and transparency in her operations. The ship was later moved near the Manhattan bridge.

The New York police authority advised the residents to avoid the area due to heavy traffic and the presence of numerous emergency vehicles.

This incident is the second fatal ship collision with a US bridge in just over a year after the collapse of the Baltimore bridge led to the death of six street workers in March 2024.
