Crash film material from Brooklyn Bridge shows Mexican seafarers who hold on to love life

Unpassed videos show that Mexican seafarers clung to the rigging of the high ship on Saturday evening – after dozens of crew members were on the masts of the ship when it got out of control.

Two seafarers were killed and 17 were injured after the ship collided with a legendary bridge shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Saturday evening on Saturday evening.

The video recorded at the time of the crash shows dozens of seafarers who looked at the 147-foot masts when it was on his way after a goodwill in New York City on his trip to Iceland.

The film material made from the Brooklyn side of the East River shows that the three masts of the Cuauhtémoc hit the bridge and grab it after an obvious mechanical failure and let it drift downwards.

Other eyewitness videos show seafarers who hang on the damage ropes on the damaged masts.

“We saw someone dangling and I couldn't say whether it was just blurred or my eyes, and we could zoom on on our phone, and it was someone who dangled from above from above before they could save them,” said the eyewitness Lily Katz of Associated Press.

Emergency crews were sent in to check the water as a precaution, but nobody remembered, said officials.

The sound when the masts hit the bridge sounded like the loud snapshot of a “big branch”, said Nick Corso, who took out his phone to capture the boat when it came under the bridge.

The people around him ran out on board the ship when “Pandemonium” broke out, and he saw seafarers who dangled on a mast, said he said.

“I didn't know what to think, I thought is that a film?” he added.

The most injured seafarers stood on the mast of the ship at the time of the crash, officials said.

The injured were brought to the Bellevue Hospital for treatment, said Mayor Eric Adams.

“We pray for everyone on board and their families and are grateful to our first aiders, who quickly get into practice, that this accident was not much worse,” said Adams on Saturday evening about a press conference.

“After our provisional inspection, we can confirm that the bridge has not suffered any damage and is now accessible to the public,” he continued.

At the time of the collision, the video shows heavy traffic on the bridge.

The ship, which flew a huge Mexican flag, arrived in New York at the beginning of this week and was fixed in the South Street Seaport Museum, where it offered the public.

It was brought to Pier 36 on the Lower East Side until Sunday morning, where it was guarded by NYPD officers and a NYPD port unit in the water.

A security zone of 50 yards was set up around the ship, the US Coast Guard said in a statement.

The Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke after the accident.

“We are deeply sad about the loss of two crew members of the Cuauhtémoc training ship who lost their lives in the unfortunate accident in the New York port. Our sympathy and our support go to their families,” said Sheinbaum on X.
