The large crime unit of St. Vincent spread thinly due to the increase in crimes

After the recent appearance of her 15th murder on Friday evening, the St. Vincent island station in Kingstown prompted the police in Kingstown to express concerns about the escalating crime situation, which considerably burdens the main criminal department of the RSVGPF.

Weapons have claimed the life of two business owners on the island within a week: Leslyn Davis and Stephen King. In addition to Davis, two other people lost their lives. A third person succumbed to a hack capital incident that took place at the beginning of the week.

In recent years, St. Vincent has recorded a disturbing increase in the crimes related to weapons, which prompted Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves: “We do not have a magical ball to stop criminal activities.”

The Caribbean nation recorded a total of 54 murders for 2024. The data show that the island puts the island in the western hemisphere in the second position in relation to murders per 100,000 people.

In 2023, SVG entered the third position, while in 2022 it held second place in the region with regard to murders per 100,000 people.

At a press conference on Saturday, ACP Trevor Bailey said,

“The investigation is cited by some members of the main break department, and I say some members in which we are not strong. The unit is not so great in terms of numbers. So the crimes spread us a little thin.”

On Saturday, Bailey asked individuals to have information that could facilitate the concern of those responsible for the murder of the Layou resident Oranson Garraway in order to step forward.

On Saturday, April 19, Garraway, when he went to the funeral of his father, was victims of Schüussen.

“We know that there are people with information who can help us with this specific matter. For some reason, information has not yet been made. We say that we know that there are people with information about this specific crime that can help us and we appeal to you to give our information so that we can justify the information in court.”

The year 2024 was shaped by widespread gun power through criminal political groups as well as controversial debates between government agencies and law enforcement authorities on the existence and operation of gangs on the island.

Since the residents were increasingly familiar with the nuances of language and formal definitions, the gloomy reality of the murder took and led the population to demand more effective strategies to relieve violence.

In an interview from 2024 via Boom FM 106.9, ACP Trevor Bailey transmitted that there are about 5 to 6 gangs on the island based on reviews of external agencies.
