Palghar Chemical Factory Leck: Thirteen workers were hospitalized on Monday after a Dimethylsulfate clever in a chemical manufacturing unit in the Palghar district in Maharashtra. According to the police, the incident took place in the early morning hours of Sunday and panicked in the area. A local fire service officer explained that the factory had treated the situation internally so that the fire brigade was not informed.

Vivekanand Kadam, head of the District Disaster Management Cell, said that the leak was taking place in a unit in Boisar Tarapur MIDC around 3 a.m. Dimethyl sulfate is a clear, oily liquid with a weak onion smell, which is known that it causes skin and eye irritation and burns.

“The device in which the leak took place generates antioxidants. The chemical was transferred from Appendix 4 to Appendix 10 when the leak took place. The steams that were released during the process in the eyes of the workers,” Kadam told PTI.

As a precaution, 13 workers were hospitalized due to chemical exposure. Kadam added that the incident was reported to his department at 12:35 p.m.

The investigation of the incident is headed by SG Babban, deputy director at the Directorate for Industrial Security and Health. The examination will examine the security protocols that are followed during chemical transmission and overall compliance with industrial security standards.

With regard to the source of the vapors, a local fire officer said that water was sprayed on the spilled chemical, which led to the release of damps that irritated the workers' eyes. Since the company managed the situation, the fire brigade was not alerted.

The Boisar police visited the site and started a separate examination, another civil servant confirmed.
