Brooklyn Half Marathon Death: Man dies after a medical emergency while running in Nyc breed

New York (WABC) – A runner died after suffering a medical emergency at the half marathon in Brooklyn on Saturday.

According to the NYPD, a 31-year-old man was eight miles into the 13.1-mile race when he went into cardiac arrest near Ocean Parkway and 18th Avenue.

HLW carried out the medical staff on site at the local man before transporting it to the Maimonides Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

“We confirm the death of one of today's racing participants with sadness and heavy hearts,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of New York Road Runners, in a statement on Saturday. “In the name of the entire current community, we are expanding our deepest condolences to his family, friends and relatives.”

In the meantime, the identity of the runner was not published and it is pending that the family notification is eliminated.

According to the Nyrr, the man was a first racing.
