US officials who examine fatal Mexican naval ship's crash

The authorities in New York examine the place where a Mexican sailing ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge to get information on how the fatal collision occurred.

Two people on board were killed and at least 19 others were injured when the Mexican training ship fell against the bridge on Saturday evening.

The police said that early investigations showed that the ship had lost power before the collision. The video showed that the three large masts of the ship crumbled as a horrific spectator from the shore.

It is not clear how the ship approached the bridge, which the authorities were not damaged by the strike. It was open on Saturday late Saturday.

The police said that the Cuauhtémoc ship had a mast height of 48.2 m, while the bridge, according to the website of the New York Transport Department at its center, had a 135 -foot release at its center.

The respondents were able to remove at least 27 people from the ship for treatment, while all 277 employees were taken into account on the ship, said the New York fire brigade authorities.

The ship lost all three masts and was moved to a nearby pier for examination.

The National Transportation Safety Board said that a team sent to support the US Coast Guard in the study that is coordinated between the US governments of the USA and Mexico.

Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, secretary of the navy in Mexico, said in a statement that the results of all investigation would be pursued with “total transparency and responsibility”.

The Cuauhtémoc left Acapulco, Mexico, on April 6 on a tour with stops in New York and Aberdeen, Scotland, for the city's Tall Ships race in July.
