Traore, VDM, other trend questions create false claims this week

Many top -class people in Nigeria became the subject of misinformation within the week, from Ibrahim Traore, Burkina Faso's military leader, to Martin Ose (very dark man). Dubawa has put together some of the trendiest problems with which dealt with during the week.

  1. Nigeria started rockets in Burkina Faso

A viral Tikk Post claimed that Nigeria had aimed at a rocket strike in Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou to the country's military leader, captain Ibrahim Traoré.

In view of the latest political instability and regional tensions in West Africa, this claim quickly gained on social media. Burkina

Since September 2022, Faso has been under the leadership of Traoré and has experienced a significant upheaval, including a withdrawal from the West African states (Ecowas) in addition to Mali and Niger and the formation of a new block, the alliance of the Sahel states (AES).

We found no evidence to support the right to rocket strike. No serious local or international news organizations reported on such an incident, and there were no official statements from Nigeria, Burkina Faso or Ecowas regarding the development mentioned. The analysis of the viral contribution showed that it was clickbait, whereby on the left rather not relatives or malicious websites than redirect to legitimate news sources.

  1. Pope Leo XIVS served in Nigeria

Several Facebook accounts stated that the newly appointed Pope Leo XIV served as a priest in Nigeria for several years. This claim was widely used, accompanied by a photo that Catholic priests in the Catholic Church of St. John in Mararaba, the state of Nasarawa, showed the state of Nasarawa, which indicated that the Pope had served there.

The Pope, a Augustiner brothers, never served as a priest in Nigeria. Instead, his mission and leadership work occurred mainly in Peru, the United States and other countries.

While Pope Leo XIV Nigeria visited several times, this visits related to his role as the leader of the order of St. Augustine. He visited the provincial chapter and hit Augustinian communities nationwide. Read more here.

  1. Kwankwaso transferred against the APC

In the middle of the latest exodus of many politicians to the All Progressive Congress (APC), a viral Facebook video claimed that Rabiu Kwankwaso had joined the Bandwagon of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The film material showed that he was wearing a cap with the insignia of President Tinubu. However, our investigations showed that the picture in the video was changed digitally. In addition, Kwankwaso had publicly refused any plans to defect and described rumors such as falsehoods and political disaster. He confirmed his loyalty to the NNPP and criticized defects as a profound betrayal of the political principles.

  1. EFCC has not redesigned VDM

A Facebook page, the comedyzi comedy, claimed that Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer and activist, announced that the Economic and Finance Criminal Commission (EFCC) was redesigned on May 10, 2025 in its residence.

However, we found this claim to be misleading. The video to support the claim is outdated because it shows Deji Adeyanju during a protest in Abuja on June 12, 2024.

After his release on May 7, 2025, there is also no official confirmation from the right -wing man from EFCC or VDM via an circumstances.

No other checks showed a credible news about a new EFCC arrest from VDM, which was initially imprisoned for several petitions in which there are financial crimes but was published after five days.

  1. Simon Ekpa is to be delivered from Finland to Nigeria

In the social media, circulating allegations stated that Simon Ekpa, the Finnish-Nigerian leader of a banned Biafra separatist group, was delivered from Finland to Nigeria in July 2025 in order to provide terrorism accusations.

Although the Finnish authorities EKPA arrested in November 2024 due to terrorism for terrorism, and a Finnish court reported reported an application for extradition, no credible evidence confirms that its delivery for July 15, 2025 is planned.

The ECPA lawyer has made it clear that he will probably appear in court in a Finnish court for hearings in June 2025, and the delivery process remains uncertain and legally complex.

The Nigerian Attorney General has also recognized the ongoing legal hurdles that delayed the delivery of EKPA and emphasizes that it can only be delivered when Finnish legal proceedings have been completed. In addition, we found that the widespread photo was digitally changed to support the claim, which made the claim wrong.

  1. Rema publishes a song to praise Traore

Mr. Traore was the subject of another claim a week, this time from YouTube. The video showed that Nigerian Afrobeats published Star Rema a song that praised Burkina Faso's military ruler. It triggered mixed reactions, with some spectators believing that it was real, while others pointed to the use of AI.

We have found that the video is a manipulated mashup that combines clips from Rema's official music videos with non -related recordings from Traoré. It is paired with an misleading audio track that does not match Rema's voice or his well -known songs.

We have also found that the channel that has published the video in the past has such a tactic to promote Traoré's military rule, and the analysis confirmed that the audio does not come from Remas official publications. Read the complete details here.
